What's involved in a boudoir shoot?

So you've heard all about this hot new craze. You're not even entirely sure how it's pronounced, but your best friend has gotten one. Your co worker has gone one. Heck, even your neighbour has been going on about it. It's the hot new topic for women's empowerment; the reclamation of the female body.
But what the heck is it all about?

“Is it true that you get naked in front of a photographer and get photos taken?”

Well, yeah, you don't have to get naked. That's entirely up to you. “Well, what do you wear?” Well, again, that ultimately is up to you, but traditionally, a boudoir photo shoot does involve lingerie.

I'll just wait until I've lost a few more kilos…”

“Aah, will you Photoshop my stomach?”

“Haha, no one wants to see this ham stuffed into string!”

These are all things that I have heard women say about their bodies when asked if they've ever thought about getting themselves a boudoir shoot.

I have done photo shoots with people of all sizes, and they don't care. Why are you saying that at three kgs, seven kgs, 20 kgs, more than you'd like to be, that you're supposedly not worthy of celebrating what you look like now? Why are you denying yourself that?

Why is it that there is this belief that we need a partner to be able to celebrate our own selves. That we need to be able to have permission to get dressed up.

That we need permission to be able to spend money on us, to be like,

“Look how hot I am”

as a gift … for them!!! Why can't it be a gift … for us?

Oh that’s right. The patriarchy.
